USL&H Workers’ Compensation Insurance is a federal act designed specifically for the marine workers environment and the marine construction industry. Its in place to provide compensation to an employee if an injury or death occurs upon navigable waters of the US. This includes any pier, wharf, dock, seawall or other construction project adjoining the water of rivers, canals or any other waters leading into navigable water.
Unlike State Workers’ Compensation, Federal USL&H Workers’ Compensation claims fall under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of Labor. State Workers’ Compensation plans DO NOT cover employees that are working on a dock or seawall on any water body that leads to navigable waters, and State Workers’ Compensation exemptions DO NOT apply to USL&H Workers’ Compensation requirements. All workers that are deployed to perform work on any pier, wharf, dock, seawall or other construction project adjoining the water are required by Federal law to be covered by USL&H insurance.
If you hire a contractor for a marine construction project and they are not covered by USL&H Workers’ Compensation insurance, you will ultimately be held financially responsible in the event of an injury or death. State Worker’s compensation will NOT cover these employees.
There is usually a reason why a particular bidder is considerably lower than the rest. Protect your home and your investments. Make absolutely sure you are dealing with a fully licensed and USL&H Workers’ Compensation insured professional for your marine construction project. |
